Hi, I’m Emma
I’m a former Team USA and professional pair skater turned Doctor of Physical Therapy. Rear Gear was inspired by the homemade hip pads my dad helped me create when I was nine years old.
I wore versions of those pads through thousands of falls, years of coaching, and all the way to the U.S. National Championships. After trying nearly every hip pad on the market, I kept coming back to that original idea.
Today, I’ve combined two decades of skating experience with my background in anatomy and movement to refine the protection I always wished existed—lightweight, comfortable, customizable, and built for skaters who want to train with confidence.
Because confidence changes everything.
This photo was taken milliseconds before one of the hardest falls of my career.
I left it here because Rear Gear isn’t about avoiding falls. It’s about giving skaters the confidence to keep chasing the next jump, knowing they’ll get back up if they don’t land it. I may have wished I had my Rear Gear here, but I still got up and landed the next jump.
